How do the advanced search options work in Primo?

This is customizable. You can decide if you want to default to start patrons at the basic search or the advanced search, and you can determine how each search works.
Note that the advanced search can only search fields from the bibliographic record, meaning that you can't add fields from the holdings, such as location. If you want your patrons to be able to search by location in a way other than filtering post-search, you can add a local data scope. Once you've created these scopes, and added them to your search profile slots, they'll appear as drop-down options in both the basic search and the advanced search:
