How do I search for bibliographic headings in Alma?

Answer

Alma allows users to browse bibliographic headings to help support various cataloging workflows. Users can browse by author name, subject, series, and title.

Browse Bibliographic Headings can be accessed from the:

  1. Open the MD Editor
  2. Click Search & Browse>Browse Bibliographic Headings
  3. Click on the Institution or Network tab to search in the desired zone
  4. Select the type of headings to browse from the drop-down list
  5. Select Source code if appropriate
  6. Type in Search value
  7. Select the appropriate vocabulary
    • Only available when using subject search
  8. Click Browse
  9. Results will display on the right-side of the MD Editor main pane, which can be viewed in the following ways:
    • Click view and the title will open in the pane on the right-side of the Metadata Editor
    • Click the title hyperlink or view to view the record

To browse bibliographic headings from the main Alma menu:

  1. Go to Resources>Cataloging>Browse Bibliographic Headings
  2. Click on the Institution or Network tab to search in the desired zone 
  3. Select the type of headings to browse from the drop-down list
  4. Select Source code if appropriate
  5. Type in Search value
  6. Select the appropriate vocabulary
    • Only available when using subject search
  7. Click Browse
