How does the openurl link resolver work in Primo VE?
Answer
The link resolver base URL is:
https://<Primo_domain>/openurl/<Alma_institution_code>/<view_code>?
eg.: https://suny-ups.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/openurl/01SUNY_UPS/01SUNY_UPS:01SUNY_UPS?
Ex Libris recommends that you include a question mark at the end of the string. An older format without a question mark may work with some vendors, but less consistently.
This link needs to be updated in:
- All of your databases from which you'll want a "get full-text" type link
- Google Scholar
- Anywhere else that you're using a "get full-text" link
Depending on how the OpenURL is set up on the external vendor side, the link will pull in specific fields from the article metadata and send them to Primo, where the system will search your Alma content to see if you have any matching full-text. The incoming link resolver does not perform a search in Primo, it only tries to match your content with what's been activated in Alma. Because it's not searching Primo and the Central Discovery Index, if you have Link in Record type databases activated in Alma, the link resolver record may not match on them if there are no portfolios in Alma.
Linking behavior:
- If you have direct linking turned on, you go right to the source
- If you require any logins for either Primo as a whole, or specific databases or services, you'll see a login. If you don't want users to have to log in to see an ILLiad request link, you can adjust the General Electronic Service to display without login.
- If you display all links, that's what you'll see
The main menu links are hidden by default on the services page, but the following CSS can be added to the custom1.css file in the customization package to display the links:
