How Do I Change My Link Resolver to Alma in Ebsco Admin?

Answer

Alma will replace 360 link and/or Full Text Finder as the campus link resolver.  So, you'll need to change your link resolver in Ebsco Admin to ensure that linking works correctly in your Ebsco databases/products.

To change your Link Resolver, go to Ebsco Admin:

https://eadmin.ebscohost.com/eadmin/

then, go to your Customize Services, choose your appropriate group (for most it will be just a main user group).

Choose the Ebscohost Web Profile, and then modify custom links.

From the Customize Links screen, you'll want to "SetUp/Maintain Custom Links"

Next, you'll want to Add New Custom Link

Best practice is to copy from existing link, and select your existing link resolver (which may be called Full Text Finder or something similar).

In the Copy Custom Link screen, you would then want to name your link resolver, and fill in the Base URL and Query String.  Since we're copying from your existing link resolver link, the rest of the settings should be fine, but it's not a bad idea to review the remainder of the settings as well.

Your Base URL will be (XXX will be replaced by your 3 letter institution code):

https://suny-xxx.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/openurl/01SUNY_XXX/01SUNY_XXX:01SUNY_XXX?

The Query String to use is:

{IfNotEmpty({PMID},ID=pmid:{PMID}&,{IfNotEmpty({DOI},ID=doi:{UrlEncode({DOI})}&,{IfEqual({dbcode},eric,ID=eric:{AN}&)})})}{IfNotEmpty({dissertation}{IfEqual({pubtype},Dissertation,ok)}{IfEqual({pubtype},{UrlDecode(Dissertations%2fTheses+-+Doctoral+Dissertations)},ok)}{IfEqual({pubtype},Dissertation+Abstract,ok)},genre=dissertation&atitle=&title={UrlEncode({title})},{IfNotEmpty({IfEqual({doctype},{UrlDecode(Journal+Article)},ok)}{issue},genre=article&atitle={UrlEncode({title})}&title={IfNotEmpty({journal},{UrlEncode({journal})},{IfNotEmpty({dissertation},{dissertation},{IfNotEmpty({book},{book},{IfNotEmpty({review},{review},{title})})})})},{IfNotEmpty({IfEqual({pubtype},{UrlDecode(Book+Chapter)},ok)}{IfEqualIgnoreCase({pubtype},{UrlDecode(book+article)},ok)}{IfEqual({doctype},{UrlDecode(Book+Entry)},ok)}{IfEqualIgnoreCase({doctype},chapter,ok)}{IfEqual({doctype},{UrlDecode(Book+Chapter)},ok)}{IfEqual({doctype},Biography,ok)}{IfEqual({doctype},{UrlDecode(Topic+overview)},ok)}{IfEqual({pubtype},Essay,ok)}{chapterpages},genre=bookitem&atitle={UrlEncode({title})}&title={IfNotEmpty({journal},{UrlEncode({journal})},{IfNotEmpty({dissertation},{dissertation},{IfNotEmpty({book},{book},{IfNotEmpty({review},{review},{title})})})})},{IfNotEmpty({IfEqual({pubtype},Book,ok)}{IfEqual({pubtype},{UrlDecode(Book+Review)},ok)}{ISBN},genre=book&atitle=&title={IfNotEmpty({book},{UrlEncode({book})},{IfNotEmpty({review},{UrlEncode({review})},{IfNotEmpty({journal},{UrlEncode({journal})},{UrlEncode({title})})})})},{IfNotEmpty({ISSN},genre=article)}&atitle={UrlEncode({title})}&title={IfNotEmpty({journal},{UrlEncode({journal})},{IfNotEmpty({dissertation},{dissertation},{IfNotEmpty({book},{book},{IfNotEmpty({review},{review},{title})})})})})})})})}{IfNotEmpty({IfEqual({pubtype},Book,ok)}{IfEqual({ISSN},ERICRIE0,ok)},,{IfNotEmpty({issn},&issn={issn})})}{IfNotEmpty({IfEqual({doctype},{UrlDecode(Journal+Article)},ok)},,&isbn={isbn})}&volume={VOLUME}&issue={issue}&date={DATE}&au={author}&spage={strtpage}&pages={pages}&sid=EBSCO:{database}:{AN}

When you're finished, scroll to the bottom of the screen and select submit.

Next, go back to the Custom Links Screen in the linking tab, and Add New Custom Links:

This will take you to a lengthy list of links, and you'll need to then find the Alma Link Resolver link.  Select the link, and then click submit.

You should now see the Alma Link Resolver in your list of Custom Links:

If you haven't already, you will also want to remove Full Text Finder from your custom links

Last, you'll want to check that your changes went through successfully, and that your Alma link resolver displays in your Ebsco databases.  Occassionaly, it may take up to a few days for the custom links changes to populate.  If you have problems or questions, contacting Ebsco support is the best next step.
