How do I create a Location and attach that Location to a Circulation Desk?
Answer
Locations contain items and are the components that make up Fulfillment Units. To create a location, you will need either the Fulfillment Administrator or General System Administrator role.
Note: Locations are attached to a single Library and therefore must be configured at the Library level.
1. Go to Configuration, select the Library where you wish to add the Location from the configuring dropdown, and then go to Fulfillment | Locations | Physical Locations.
2. Click the Add Location link.
3. Add a code to the Code field, a name to the Name, and select a location type from the Type dropdown (see below for more info). If you want something other than the value in the Name field to appear in Primo, enter that into the External Name field. If this Location is part of a remote storage facility, select that facility from the Remote Storage dropdown. You can also select a value from the Call Number Type dropdown or add a link to a map of the Location to the Map field. Once you have entered all the information you need to enter, click the Add Location button. The Location you've created will then be added to the Library's Physical Locations list.
Note: The options for Location Type are:
- Open – A location that can be accessed by patrons, who can remove an item from the location and then check out the item.
- Closed – A location that is accessible by library personnel only and is not accessible to patrons.
- Remote Storage – A remote storage location, which is similar to a closed location, except that it is located off-site. Retrieving of an item from a remote storage location may take longer than retrieving an item from a regular closed location.
- Unavailable – A location from which items are considered unavailable for calculating the general electronic services in Primo.
5. Click the ellipsis next to the Location you've created and then click the Edit link.
6. Click the Attach Existing Circulation Desk link, select a circulation desk from the Existing Circulation Desk dropdown, and then click the Attach Existing Circulation Desk button.
