How do I create a Primo login password for an Open SUNY (i.e. walk-in borrower) user?

Answer

Open SUNY (i.e. walk-in borrower) users will initially be created in your Alma as External users, which will prevent them from logging in to your Primo.  In order to allow an Open SUNY user to log in to your Primo, you will need to switch their account from External to Internal and then enter a password into their account record.  All of this must be done after you're gone through all the steps to create the Open SUNY account.  For information on how to create an Open SUNY account, please see https://sunyolis.libanswers.com/faq/260608

In order to create a Primo password for an Open SUNY user, you will need the User Manager role.

Note: Refreshing an Open SUNY account through Manage Patron Services will switch the account type back to External, so you will need to switch the account type back to Internal whenever you do that.  Refreshing an Open SUNY account does not change the user's password, so you do not need to recreate that after refreshing an account.

1. From the main Alma page, perform a User search for the Open SUNY user needing a password.

2. Click the ellipsis next to the Open Suny user's record and then click the Edit link.

3. Click the Toggle Account Type button and then click the Confirm button in the confirmation message that appears.

4. Enter a password into the Password and Verify password fields.  If you want the user to change their password when they first log in to Primo, leave the Force Password Change on Next Login box checked.  If not, uncheck that box.  Once you've finished doing all of this, click the Save button.add password
