How do I configure a Fulfillment Unit's On Shelf Request Policy?
Answer
A fulfillment unit's On Shelf Request Policy determines whether items within that fulfillment unit can be requested. Your On Shelf Request Policy options are:
- Request for Pickup Anywhere Regardless of Availability - This will allow your users to place requests on all items within the Fulfillment Unit and pick those items up at any of your libraries.
- Request for Pickup in Different Library Only - This will allow your users to place requests on all items within the Fulfillment Unit, but it will not allow them to pick the item up at the library where the item is housed.
- Request for Pickup in Different Campus Only - This will allow your users to place requests on all items within the Fulfillment Unit, but it will not allow them to pick the item up at any library that is part of the campus where the item is housed.
- No Requesting from Available Holdings - This blocks requesting for available items within the Fulfillment Unit but allows requesting for items that are unavailable.
- No Requesting - This blocks all requests for items within the Fulfillment Unit.
Notes:
- The On Shelf Request Policy does not govern whether an item is available for requesting via resource sharing. That is determined by the Is Requestable for Physical Resource Sharing and Is Requestable for Digital Resource Sharing policies in your Request TOUs.
- If your On Shelf Request Policy does not allow requesting but your Request TOUs do allow requesting, the On Shelf Request Policy will take precedence, and requesting will be blocked for the entire fulfillment unit. However, if your On Shelf Request Policy allows requesting but your Request TOUs do not allow requesting, the Request TOU will take precedence, and requesting will be blocked for items to which those Request TOUs are applied. Pickup location options behave in an identical manner. In short, if there is a conflict between your On Shelf Request Policy and your Request TOUs, the most restrictive policy is applied.
- If your Booking TOUs allow users to submit Booking requests, the Booking request link will appear in Primo regardless of your On Shelf Request Policy.
In order to set a fulfillment unit's On Shelf Request Policy, you will need the Fulfillment Administrator role.
1. Go to Configuration | Fulfillment | Physical Fulfillment | Fulfillment Units
2. Click the ellipsis next to the fulfillment unit you wish to edit and then click the Edit link.
3. Select the desired On Shelf Request Policy and then click the Save button.
