How do you batch export bibliographic records from OCLC to Alma?
Answer
Bibliographic records can be exported in batch from OCLC to Alma using an export file (OCLC) and an import profile (Alma). The direct batch export from OCLC requires users to click close each time a bib record is exported successfully into Alma.
Steps to export bib records in batch from OCLC Connexion Client to Alma:
- Create a text (.txt) file with OCLC numbers
- Upload the text file to OCLC
- Batch load the MARC records to a local save file in OCLC
- Export the MARC records from OCLC to a file
- Change exported file from .dat to .mrc
- Import the records to Alma using an import profile
Create a text (.txt) file with OCLC numbers:
- Open a text editor, such as Notepad or Notepad++
- Paste the OCLC numbers into the text editor
- Remove the (OCoLC) prefix
- Should only contain the number
- Click File>Save
- Select the path where the file will be saved
- Name the file
- Open Connexion Client
- Click Batch>Enter Bibliographic Search Keys
- Click Import
- Select the .txt file
- Click "No" when the pop-up screen appears and asks "Do you want to delete your original import profile"
- Click Save
- Click Close
Batch load the MARC records to a local save file in OCLC:
- Click Batch>Process Batch
- Check the box next to the default bib file path (or to custom path if configured)
- Check the box next to Online Searches under Process
- Click Ok
- Files will upload to the save file
- Batch Search Report will display when the upload is complete
- Click the "X" to close the Batch Search Report:

Change exported file from .dat to .mrc:
