Why are Community Zone (CZ) records added to the Network Zone (NZ)? How does this impact Primo Searching?

Answer

The Network Zone (NZ) is designed to store a copy of each CZ bibliographic record that has been activated by a SUNY library.

Primo Indexing:

Primo VE indexing for NZ and CZ linked bibliographic records comes from the NZ bibliographic record, and not from the library’s IZ bibliographic record.

  • Indexing control how records may be searched in Primo VE.
  • The NZ bibliographic record receives all CZ updates that are pushed out through the CZ updates job but as this jobs does not always run at the same time at the campus and in the NZ, there may be metadata differences in the linked records, which can impact Primo searching.

Best Practices:

  1. After CZ activation, confirm that the bibliographic record(s) for the activated content exists in the NZ:
    • Perform an All Titles repository search for the CZ record using ISBN or CKB number
    • Click on the Network tab
    • Make sure the CZ record is in the Network Zone and the institution is listed under Held By
  2. Search for content in Primo: content should be discoverable in Primo within 30 minutes

Known Issues:

  • NZ version of bibliographic record is out of sync with IZ version, causing Primo search failure for content that can be seen on IZ version. Should be fixed when the indexing jobs are completed, but could continue to be an issue
  • Holdings are correctly added to the NZ bibliographic record, but the content is not showing in Primo VE when it should be
  • Holdings are correctly removed from NZ bibliographic record, but content is still showing in Primo VE when it should not be
