What call number type is used when a new holdings record is created?

Answer

The call number type that is used when a new holdings record is created depends on how the holdings record is created in Alma. When a holdings is created:

  • By an Import profile or API: The Call number type used is from the defined call number type for the physical location. The physical location call number type can be defined in configuration for each location (Configuration>Select the Configuring Library>General>Physical locations or Configuration>Select the Configuring Library>Fulfillment>Physical locations)
  • In the MD Editor manually: The call number type used comes from the call number type that is configured in the default holdings template
  • From a POL created manually in Alma: The Call number type used is from the defined call number type for the physical location. This is a known issue, Pending Work plan.

A known issue related to call number type: When changing location by the "Change Physical Items Information" job, the Call number type is currently not taken from the defined physical location call number type. Development is working on it and a fix is planned for 2022.
