How do I create a resource sharing lending deflection?
Answer
Note #1: When configuring a lending deflection, please make sure you are doing all configuration work at the institution level, not the library level. Deflections configured at the institution level will be pushed down to all libraries. Once you've finished configuring a deflection, please check your work at the library level to make sure there aren't any discrepancies between how the institution and library are configured.
Note #2: If you would like to deflect resource sharing requests but still allow hold requests for a group of items, you need to make sure the resource sharing deflection request fulfillment unit rule is below the rules that allow hold requests for your user groups.
1. Create a Terms of Use where the Is Requestable for Physical Resource Sharing policy type is set to "Not requestable for physical resource sharing." You may be able to use a Terms of Use that already exists. For additional information on how to create a Terms of Use, please see https://sunyolis.libanswers.com/faq/298510
2. Go to Configuration, make sure your institution is selected in the Configuring Dropdown, navigate to Fulfillment | Physical Fulfillment | Fulfillment Units, click the ellipsis next to the Fulfillment Unit where you'd like to create a lending deflection, and then click Edit.
3. Click the Fulfillment Unit Rules tab and then select Request from the Rule Type dropdown.
4. If you want to set up a lending deflection for the entire Fulfillment Unit, click the ellipsis next to the Default request rule, click Edit, select the TOU you created or identified in step 1 from the Terms of Use dropdown in the Output Parameters section, click the Save button, and then click the Save button again.
5. If you want to set up a lending deflection for specific items in the Fulfillment Unit, click the Add Rule button, enter a name for the rule into the Name field, click the Add Parameter link, select the rule parameters that match the deflection you wish to create, click the Add parameter button, select the Output TOU you created or identified in step 1 from the Terms of Use dropdown in the Output Parameters section, click the Save button, and then click the save button again.
