How do I configure a Terms of Use (TOU)?
Answer
A Terms of Use (TOU) is a group of Fulfillment Policies that determines how items can be requested and loaned and how those requests and loans behave once they're created. TOUs are applied to requests and loans by Fulfillment Unit Rules. In order configure a TOU, you will need the Fulfillment Administrator role.
There are six types of TOUs:
- Booking – Determines how booking requests can be submitted
- Borrowing Resource Sharing – Determines who can submit resource sharing borrowing requests and where requested items can be picked up or delivered
- Lending Resource Sharing – Determines loan periods for resource sharing lending requests
- Loan – Determines whether items can circulate, loan periods, renewal policies, grace periods, and fines
- Request – Determines who can request items and where requested items can be picked up
- User registration – Determines policies for user registration
TOUs can be configured at both the institution and library level. It is possible to create conflicting TOUs if you're configuring them at both levels, so you should always configure TOUs at the institution level.
To create a TOU, take the following steps.
1. Go to Configuration | Fulfillment | Physical Fulfillment | Terms of Use and Policies
2. Click the Add a Terms of Use link.
3. Select the type of TOU you wish to create and then click the Next button.
4. Enter a name for the TOU into the Name field, select the desired Fulfillment Policies from the Policy Name dropdowns, and then click the Next button.
5. Click the Save button.
